# Register a movement

> Record a transfer of reusable assets between your workspace and a partner.

Register a **Movement** when reusable assets leave, arrive, or change custody relative to a partner.

## Outcome

A movement is recorded with the correct partner, asset type, quantity, and direction so balances stay accurate.

## Prerequisites

* Access to the [Palletlog dashboard](https://dashboard.palletlog.com)
* At least one [asset type](/getting-started/add-asset-types)
* A [partner](/partners/add-partner) in your network
* Quantity and direction for the physical event

  If you do not have permission to complete an action in Palletlog, ask a workspace administrator to adjust your role or complete the task for you.

## Steps

    Confirm who the partner is, which asset type moved, how many units, and whether the flow is inbound or outbound relative to your workspace.

  <Step title="Open movement registration">
    In the dashboard, open the flow used to register a new movement.

  <Step title="Enter movement details">
    Select the partner and asset type, enter quantity and direction, then add references or transport data if your process requires them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Attach proof when needed">
    Upload supporting proof for high-risk handovers or when partners expect evidence. See [Upload supporting proof](/operations/upload-proof).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and verify">
    Save the movement and confirm it appears in activity lists with the expected status.

## Expected result

The movement is stored, contributes to partner balances, and can be used for confirmation or reconciliation.

## Common mistakes

* Recording the wrong direction — this inverts balance impact. See [Understand movement direction](/operations/movement-direction).
* Selecting an asset type your partner does not recognize
* Omitting transport references that partners need for matching
